RUTHERFORD- Jeannette Louise Mitchell (nee Teremetzky), 90, resident of Rutherford for over 50 years, passed away on Aug. 24. She was born in Passaic to the late Daniel and Caroline (nee Wasik) Teremetzky. Mrs. Mitchell lived in Red Bank until young adulthood, where she graduated high school and business college. During World War II, she worked for the British allies on the China-Burma-India Theater in Fort Monmouth. While working there, she met and married her husband, Sidney N. Mitchell, an officer serving in the Signal Corps. Mrs. Mitchell also worked as a credit manager for Vivitar in Lyndhurst. Throughout the past few years, she lived at Cedar Crest Village. Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of the Rutherford Art Association, Rutherford Woman's Club and Rutherford PTA. She was also a volunteer for Rutherford Youth Employment, Little League Baseball and a Cub Scout Den Leader. She was an accomplished oil painter, and her many artistic talents included hand-smocking, sewing, knitting and flower arranging. Jeannette enjoyed all forms of music, her favorite being the opera. Mrs. Mitchell adored animals and sheltered the many that were rescued by her children. Her greatest gifts were those she gave to her family - a lifetime of love, compassion, and generosity. Her remarkable resiliency and courage inspired all who were lucky enough to have known her. Mrs. Mitchell is predeceased by her husband, Sidney (1998) and her son, Daniel (1988). She will be missed by her beloved children, Carolyn Mitchell Kehayan and husband Dr. Alex Kehayan, son Joseph Edward Mitchell, grandson Cary Mitchell Kehayan, and granddaughter Amanda Mitchell. The funeral will be Thursday, Aug. 29 at 10:15 a.m., St. Mary's Church, Rutherford. Interment in Arlington National Cemetery, Va., where Jeannette will join her husband Sidney; date to be determined. Family will receive friends Wednesday, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. in the Collins Calhoun Funeral Home, 19 Lincoln Ave., Rutherford. In Jeannette's honor, donations may be made to the Salvation Army or the Teterboro Animal Shelter.
