Avis de décès de Jeanne Smith

JEANNE SMITH The joyous life of a truly wonderful woman ended peacefully on October 9, 2005, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach. Born in Belaire, Ohio on August 27, 1921, to Antonio and Carmella (Casciano) Sciarra, she was the sixth of eight children. Her family soon moved to Akron, Ohio. In December, 1942, a handsome sergeant joined the Christmas celebration of her loving family at the invitation of her older sister's husband. It was wartime and it was possible to come to Akron from Fort Dix – Cambridge, MA, his hometown, was too far. Thus, began a love story that lasted for more than six decades. They were married on March 9, 1943. Together they traveled the world and raised their family. She was very proud of her role as the wife of an army officer. She was always gracious and kind to everyone, a consummate homemaker who enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She loved to garden, volunteer and was a "political junkie". They moved to Florida in 1964 from Ft. Thomas, KY and then to Micco in 1984, from Deerfield Beach. She moved to Vero Beach when, sadly, in October, 2004, the love story ended with the death of her beloved "Smitty", Edward Joseph Smith, Sr. She was also predeceased by her son, Edward Joseph Smith, Jr., her parents, and six siblings. Survivors include daughter Kathleen S. Bell and son-in-law Ronald W. Bell of Vero Beach, grandsons Douglas J. Bell of Gainesville, FL, Michael D. Smith (Amparito) of Louisville, KY, Langan S. Smith of Louisville, KY, granddaughter Heather W. Bell of Vero Beach, sister Leona Wickham of Akron, Ohio, 17 nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Patricia Scharra of Akron, Ohio, special friend Brian Ogden of Vero Beach and Fluffy. A memorial Mass will be held at St. Helen's Catholic Church, Friday, October 14, at 10:00 a.m. Inurnment for both Jeanne and Edward Smith will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA in the Columbarium on November 4, 2005, with full military honors – they will be together forever. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to VNA & Hospice Foundation, Inc., 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960. Seawinds Funeral Home & Crematory, Sebastian, is in charge of the arrangements. Condolences may be registered at Seawindsfh.com
