MILLER, JEANNE MUDD, 89, born Mary Imogene Mudd on April 3, 1920 in New Haven, KY, passed peacefully to her heavenly Father on Friday, March 26, 2010. Jeanne entered the Ursuline Sisters of Mt. St. Joseph in Owensboro, KY, taking the name, Sister Anastasia. She began her 35-year teaching career in the 1940s in Louisville at St. James Grade School. Among her other assignments were St. Ann's, Howardstown, St. Francis, Loretto, St. Edward's, Jeffersontown and as principal at both Mother of Good Counsel and St. Leonard's in Louisville. After taking her leave from the convent she continued teaching and served first as principal of St. Martha Grade School and later worked as a substitute teacher for St. Francis of Assisi, Sacred Heart Model School, St. Barnabas and others. During her years in the classroom, Jeanne furthered her professional education as a grant recipient, attending Duke University as well as St. Louis University. She met and subsequently married the love of her life, Jack, on October 19, 1974. They had 24 wonderful years of companionship. Their lives were filled with family and friends. Jeanne became Nana to her deceased sister's granddaughters, Jessica and Olivia Sievert. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Estelle Howard Mudd and Dr. Edward D. Mudd; her husband, Ambrose "Jack" Miller; sisters, James Edward (Hilda) Mudd, OSU, Shirley Glaser, Inez Glauber, Catherine Dawson, Juanita Jasper, Estelle Freibert and her brother, Dr. Richard Mudd. She is survived by a sister, Faye Hill, of Carrollton; a brother Joseph Mudd, M.D. of Clarksville, IN.; 30 nieces and nephews including her niece caretakers, Sara Sievert, Shannon Whelan, Elaine Flynn and Paula Glaser, all of Louisville, who will miss her greatly; stepgranddaughters, Laura Miller, Jeanne Tarazevits and a stepgreat-grandson of California. In accordance with Jeanne's wishes, a memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 3042 Hikes Lane . Following the service, family and friends will gather for a celebration of her life. Highlands Family-Owned Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Hospice of Louisville.
