Jeanne Littlefield Hammond    ALBION -- Jeanne Littlefield Hammond of Albion died on Nov. 19, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer.      Jeanne was born in Dexter on Aug. 26, 1927, one of two children of Fred Littlefield and Wilhelmina Hauser Littlefield.     After graduating as valedictorian from Newport High School, Jeanne continued her education at Colby College, graduating in 1949.      While attending Colby, Jeanne worked at City Job Print where she met her future husband, Earle M. Hammond. In 1951, she and Earle married and started their family of seven children. In 1997, Jeanne unexpectedly lost her husband of 46 years.     From 1961 through 2006, Jeanne was the registrar for the Lancaster Course in Ophthalmology, which is held at Colby College each summer. From 1962 to 1997, Jeanne was employed at Colby as a secretary for the Registrar's Office.      Throughout her career, Jeanne worked tirelessly for the equality of women. In 1955, she joined an organization to which her mother belonged, the Waterville Business and Professional Women. She held every local BPW office and served as state president. Jeanne served as a trustee and was currently serving as president of BPW's Futurama Foundation, which provides educational scholarships for Maine women. Jeanne was also a state president of the American Association of University Women.      Surviving family members include her sister, Anne Cronin of Belfast; her children, G. Michael Hammond of Albion, Sandra Hammond of Marlborough, Mass., David Hammond of Albion, Marjorie FitzGerald of Waterville, Alice Hammond of Albion, Marilyn Leimbach of Waterville, Heather Carey of Waterville, and their spouses; stepdaughter Earlene Hammond of Merrimack, N.H.; her 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.      A celebration of her life will be held at the Lorimer Chapel, Colby College, on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2006, at 2 p.m.     In lieu of flowers, the family hopes to establish a memorial scholarship in her name through the BPW Futurama Foundation.
