Family and friends together celebrate the life of Jeanne Cannon Johnson who died May 5, 2005. Born in Fountain Inn, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Arthur Dickson Cannon and the late Lila Foy Cannon, and the widow of Leon E. Johnson. She attended Columbia College and was a graduate of The University of South Carolina where she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She was retired from the Greenville County School District where she taught for 32 years. Upon her retirement, she taught at Greenville Technical College for 5 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, where she taught the Adult Sunday school class for 25 years. Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Hope Fortson.Mrs. Johnson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne and Don Whilden; a sister, Caroline (John) Johnston of Greenville; brothers, James A. (Sara) Cannon of Fountain Inn and A.D. Cannon, Jr. (Jenny) of Atlanta; and her beloved grandchildren all of Greenville, Whitney (Steve) Balzer, Drew Fortson and Travis (Heather) Fortson. Her great-grandchildren, all of Greenville, Isobelle and Amelia Fortson and Collin and Jake Balzer were her greatest joys.Committal services will be held at 3:15 p.m. Monday, May 9, 2005, at the Cannon Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel.Followed by a 4 p.m. memorial service Monday, May 9, 2005, at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ray Litts and the Rev. Paul A. Betsill officiating. The family will receive friends after the service in the sanctuary of the church.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels, 15 Oregon St., Greenville, SC 29605, or to the Trinity United Methodist Church, 403 South Weston St., Fountain Inn, SC 29644.The family will be at the home of James A. and Sara Cannon, 101 Woodvale Ave. Fountain Inn, SC 29644.Cannon Funeral Home, Fountain Inn, is serving the Johnson Family.
