EAST KINGSTON ; Jeanne G. Higgins, of East Kingston, formerly of Hampton, died Nov. 5, 2008, after complications from pneumonia. She was born in Boston, Mass., Dec. 2, 1921, the daughter of the late James H. and Ruth G. (Hilton) Glidden. She moved to Hampton in 1955 from Arlington, Mass. with her late husband, John F. Higgins, whom she met while serving as an assistant chaplain in the U.S. Navy during World War II. John predeceased her in 1986.For many years, she owned and operated the Hampton Flower and Garden Shop with her husband. After they sold the flower shop she worked at the Ocean National Bank, where she retired. She then continued to work for eight years at the Department of Housing, University of New Hampshire, retiring in December of 2004.Mrs. Higgins was a member of Christ Church, Episcopal in Exeter, and a former member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Hampton. Loving the Grange, she was Past Master of the Ocean Side Grange in Hampton, Past Master of Gilman Grange in Exeter and Past Master of the East Rockingham Pomona Grange. She also held the positions of membership director, secretary and pianist of the New Hampshire State Grange and was a member of the National Grange.Other organizations that she was a member of include: Tide Mill Chapter #67 OES, Hampton, Winnacummet Lodge #26 of Rebecca's, Hampton Garden Club, Hampton's American Legion Post #35, Hampton Legion Auxiliary, Daughters of the American Revolution (Past Chapter President), Hampton Monday Club (Past President), and the Business & Professional Women's Club, Exeter.She is survived by her daughter, Helen P. Higgins of Boston, Mass., several nieces and nephews and Carolyn J. Ross and Donald R. Ross of East Kingston with whom she had been residing with for the last 18 years.There will be no visiting hours. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, in Christ Church<B>,</B> Episcopal, 43 Pine St., Exeter to be followed by a reception at Harris Hall. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.<B> </B>Private interment will be in the High Street Cemetery, Hampton.
