->Higgins, JeanneJeanne Higgins of Laurens, New York died on Monday, November 21st, 2011 of heart failure. She was ninety years old. Born of immigrant parents, she grew up during the Great Depression in New York City. She studied piano and ballet and loved the theatre. During World War II she worked for the Department of the Navy and met Patrick Higgins, of Columbia, South Carolina, then serving in the Merchant Marines. After the war, they married, and traveled with Ringling Brothers' Circus, where Patrick worked as a clown and Jeanne as a dancer. Patrick and Jeanne lived briefly in Columbia, South Carolina; Anaheim, California; and New York City before finally settling in Rockland County where they raised six children, Kathleen, Dennis, Kenneth, Mitchell, Gerald, and Kevin. Jeanne was active in the Parent-Teachers-Association and ran the Airmont School Fair for several years. Jeanne made jewelry and stained glass art, and served as president of the Rockland Mineral and Gem Society. Jeanne and Patrick were active in the arts community and hosted private showings of local artists' work. After her husband's death in 1972 Jeanne returned to full-time work, for more than twenty years working as an administrative assistant with Novartis in Suffern, NY. A lover of antiques and art, Jeanne was an avid collector. She is survived by five of her loving children and eight grandchildren. She did not wish to have a funeral. The family will hold a memorial service for her in the spring.
