Artist, art critic, dancer, died September 5, 2004, at home in Worthington, OH. Born 1926 in Buffalo, NY to Grace H. Ertell and Christian M. Woelfle; survived by sister Joyce A. Lehmann and brother William Woelfle in Rochester, NY; preceded in death by her son, Thomas Fryer, brother Donald Woelfle, sister Joan Rossel, parents and step-father, Ernest Hall; survived by her husband Werner H. Kohles (Tex), son Ronald Fryer and family of Vancouver, WA and daughter Jill Fryer and grandson Michael Fryer of San Diego, CA; step-mother of Jenna Hutchinson and family, Laura Windmiller and family, Cindy Kohles and Ron Wagner, Hans Kohles and Connie Lilly. Jeanne Fryer-Kohles was a 1966 cum laude graduate of SUNY at Buffalo. She was a Phi Beta Kappa and awarded the first European Travel Grant from SUNY's Dept. of Art. She earned a Master of Fine Arts degree from Ohio State University in 1968. Her paintings and prints were shown nationally. She was an avid supporter of the arts, writing for art publications including Dialogue, The Columbus Dispatch and the New Art Examiner. Jeanned served on the Board of the Columbus Art League, the visual arts committee of the Worthington Arts Council, member of the international Art Critics' Association, and TAO (The Artists' Organization). She has lectured on contemporary art, and juried many exhibitions throughout Ohio. In recent years, and with the support of Dance-Plus Studio in Grandview, she blossomed into a talented ballroom dancer. A Memorial Service will be held at First Unitarian-Universalist Church of Columbus, 93 W. Weisheimer Rd, Columbus, OH at 11:00 AM on September 17, 2004. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Jeanne's name to First Unitarian-Universalist Church, Home Reach Hospice, 3539 Olentangy River Rd., Columbus, OH 43214, or Funeral Consumers Alliance of Central Ohio (FCACO), PO Box 14835, Columbus, OH 43214.
