Jackson, Jean L. GUILDERLAND CENTER Jean Worth LaGrange Jackson died Monday, July 16, 2007 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law in Gallupville, N.Y. Born December 12, 1920 to Mary Elizabeth Worth and Lloyd Spawn La-Grange, she resided in Colonie and attended the Milne School. Following her marriage to Leland H. Jackson, they moved to the LaGrange family farm on Ostrander Road in Altamont where she resided until October 31, 2001 when she was stricken with a sudden illness. Following her miraculous recovery she lived with her daughter and son-in-law in Gallupville, enjoying every minute of time with her family and friends. Jean was a descendant of the La Grange family which has been in the Guilderland Center- Altamont area for many generations, and she was very proud of that connection. She loved Guilderland Center and the Helderberg Reformed Church where she was a member for fifty seven years. She was employed at the GFL in Altamont as a bookkeeper in the 1950s and as a school bus driver for the Guilderland School District from 1965 until 1985. Anyone who was a child on Schoolhouse Road during those years will remember her as the loving lady who made it alright to leave home to go to school. Always involved, she was a member of the Guilderland Historical Society, the Huguenot Society, the Peter Gansevoort chapter DAR, the Dutch Settlers Society and, as an engineer's daughter, the National Historical Railroad Society. Jean was predeceased by her parents; her sister and best friend, Marian LaGrange Massad; her brother-in-law, A. James Massad; her husband, Leland H. Jackson, and her beloved companion, Jerry Furbeck. Left behind to miss her humor, graciousness and love of family are her children, Bill (Martha) Jackson, Ken (Gale) Jackson, Karen (Bill) Simmons and Jeff Jackson; her daughters-in-law, Vala and Deborah Jackson; her grandchildren, who delighted her are Kim (Bryon) Cook, Greg (Lorene) Jackson, MaryBeth (Joe) Flagler, Pam (Rich) O'Neill, Ken Jackson (Bruce Hilliker), Kevin (Kristine) Jackson, W. Shawn (Kristen) Simmons, Timothy Simmons (Chantelle Schember), Justin Simmons, Brian (Jeanette Jackson) and Ian (Mio DelGado) Jackson. Her great-grandchildren, who were her newest angels to treasure, Matthew, Lauren and Nathan Cook, Jared, Zachary and Samatha Flagler, Nathaniel Simmons and Brian and Bennett Jackson. It is said that the date one is born and the date one dies are really not important, but rather what is in the ----. (Dash). Our Mom packed as much as she could in to her --- and left everyone who knew her better for the experience. A funeral service will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Helderberg Reformed Church, Guilderland, N.Y. Friends may call on Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Guilderland. Those who wish may make contributions in Jean's memory to the Catskill Area Hospice, 1 Birchwood Dr., Oneonta, NY 13820 or to the Helderberg Reformed Church, P.O. Box 196, Guilderland Ctr., NY 12085.
