OSSIDE, Jean Shirley (nee Smith) August 23, 1930 - January 30, 2009 With heavy hearts, the Osside family very sadly announces the unexpected passing of their loving and cherished wife and mother, Jean Shirley, at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute. Jean's beautiful smile, infectious laughter, great sense of humour and eternally inquisitive mind will be sorely missed by Robert, her devoted husband of 53 years; and her loving children Christine, David (Michelle Ruse), Lise (John Millar) and Diane (Ernie Fraser). She will also be missed by her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly: Rheanna and Cameron Fraser, and Connor and Kyle Osside. Jean will be fondly remembered by sisters Georgina Cormier (Omer) of Moncton, NB; Helen Harpell (late Ken) of Scarborough, ON; Florence Smith (late Pat Ermekiel) of Ottawa, ON; and brothers Gregg Saunders (Muriel) of Chilliwack, BC; Gerald Smith (Mary) of Moncton, NB; and Sterling Smith (Millie) of LaSalle, QC. A host of nieces and nephews, and scores of people whose lives she touched in so many ways will always carry wonderful memories of her. Jean's family send special thanks to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, particularly the Day Unit staff for the care and attention they provided to Jean, and especially to Dr. Goldstein and the Cardiac Surgery ICU team for all they did to try to save her. In lieu of a funeral, there will be a memorial gathering for friends and family in the Spring. For those who wish, memorial donations to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada or the University of Ottawa Heart Institute would be appreciated by Jean's family.
