Moore, Jean Marolyn "" (1922-2013) Jean Marolyn Erhardt Moore, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones. A soul so pure and sweet; she will be missed. Jean was born during a snowstorm in North Dakota on February 19, 1922. A lone light bulb in the center of the room was covered with a sock to soften Jean's arrival to Ivan and Florence Erhardt, both first generation German Americans. After five years in North Dakota, an uncle encouraged the family to move to warmer weather and they settled in Glendale, California. Jean witnessed the Great Depression and after graduating from John Marshall High School and two years of college in Los Angeles, she set out for adventure. Taking the train with hundreds of young women from the west, all bound for training at Hunter College in New York, Jean joined the WAVES. Jean was sent to a post in San Diego where she helped to decode classified information during World War II. Once the war was over, she set sail for two years in Japan with the Civil Service, where she often saw General MacArthur at his Headquarters in Tokyo, as Japan was on its way to Reconstruction. Her next adventure led her to the Azores where she met the love of her life, Herbert, and their romance included hopping on the mail plane over to various cities in Europe. Jean and Herb were married in 1952 after they both returned stateside. They raised a family and celebrated 61 years of marriage, which included living in California, Okinawa, Washington DC, Nevada and Florida. The family settled in Winter Park after Herb's retirement from the service. Jean is survived by the most devoted and loving husband, Herbert Mallory of Oviedo, three children, Jeffrey Steven of Casselberry, Lisa Hock (Dan) of Oviedo, Todd Mallory (Tricia) of Indialantic, two grandchildren, Allison Hock Cassedy (Case), Shelby Hock Rushing (Alex) and two sisters, Gretchen and Kim, both of California. Jean loved tennis, painting and traveling. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate her life. Jean's light like the one illuminating her birth, will shine on.
