MACDONALD, JEAN ELIZABETH (SMYTHE) Jean Elizabeth (Smythe) MacDonald, 90, died June 10, 2005 in Wauklehegan Manor, McAdam, NB. Formerly of St. Stephen, NB and Fredericton, NB. Jean was born in Fredericton, New Brunswick, the daughter of Estella and Stanley Rogers. She was predeceased by first husband, Stanley Smythe, second husband, Angus MacDonald, and her five siblings. She is survived by her daughters Helen Kydd (Henk van Leeuwen) and Nancy Bateman (Tim), both of Halifax, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Jean was a highly regarded teacher and librarian in the New Brunswick School system, beginning her career upon graduation from Provincial Normal School at the age of 17. In the late 1960's she traveled the province as a member of the Task Force on Social development. In 1976 Jean graduated from the University of New Brunswick with a Bachelor of Arts degree. A member of countless organizations during her time both in St. Stephen and Fredericton, she was a published author, historian, tireless community volunteer and, most importantly, a wonderful mother. Visitation will follow the memorial service which will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, at S. O. Mehan and Son Funeral Home, St. Stephen. Interment will be private at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
