the loving and dearly beloved wife for 54 years of Colonel Strome Galloway of Ottawa and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. George A. Love of Toronto, died on Sunday, August 11, 2002, in her 85th year. Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters Jean Caroline and her husband Robert W. Blackburn of Ottawa and Rosemary Dawn and her husband Mark G. Armstrong of Toronto, and two grandsons Rob Galloway-Blackburn and Alex Galloway-Blackburn. Jean was graduated B.A. from the University of Toronto, Vic 3T9 and also from the Ontario College of Education with a specialist's certificate in Educational Counselling and Vocational Guidance. She was on the "Varsity" staff with the future TV stars Wayne and Shuster and at that time covered special assignments for the "Toronto Star". She directed a course in Journalism at the Toronto YMCA and taught English Literature, Commercial English and Advertising at Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School. Later she edited the "West Toronto Weekly" and became assistant news editor at the "Toronto Star Weekly". During the Second World War Jean was Ontario Press representative for the Wartime Prices and Trade Board. Afterwards Jean headed her own publicity bureau in Toronto. For several years she wrote feature articles for the Canadian Press Wire Service from Fort Churchill and Europe. In the 1950's her column "Sisters All", appeared in a large number of Ontario weekly newspapers. She was Past President of both the Toronto and Ottawa Canadian Women's Press Clubs, now known as Media Clubs. Her career is summarized in Jean Bannerman's "Leading Ladies of Canada". Friends may visit at the Central Chapel of Hulse, Playfair & McGarry, 315 McLeod Street on Wednesday, August 14, 2002, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Bartholomew's Anglican Church, 125 MacKay Street on Thursday, August 15th at 2 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, but by her personal wish, donations to The RCR Museum, Wolseley Hall, Elizabeth Street, London, Ontario, in honoured memory of Colonel Galloway's fallen comrades of World War II would be appreciated.
