Jean Blachford Jurow (nee Wilson) died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012, at St. Peter's University Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J. The memorial service is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012, at the Reformed Church of Highland Park. Born June 23, 1922, in Detroit, Mich., Jean attended public schools there, graduated from Cooley High School, and attended Wayne State College for two years. She married Charles D. Blachford on Oct. 21, 1944, and moved to New Jersey with her husband and four children in 1960. She earned a B.A. in education in 1966 from Kean University, an M.Ed. in 1969 from Rutgers and B.A. in science in 1994 from William Paterson University. Mrs. Jurow taught elementary education in New Brunswick, N.J. for 25 years. She was president of the New Brunswick Education Association and also participated in NJEA county and national activities. She had four children, all of whom graduated from New Jersey public schools, Charles D. Blachford III (Chloebelle), Esther Cassidy (Robert Kuhns), Ellen Rutkowski (Michael John), and Matthew A. Blachford (Donna). She married Werner Jurow on Feb. 2, 1981. She cherished eight grandchildren, Jennifer, Charles IV (Brittani), Courtney, Kristin, Michael Hazen, Matthew, Jessica, and David, and great-grandchild, Zachary Blachford. Jean Jurow also leaves behind a bereaved sister, Louise Parker; brother, Martin Wilson,and a loving extended family.
