RAMSEY, Jay, 70, of Tampa, passed away peacefully May 27, 2006, aftera long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Betty; son, William Stuart Ramsey of Atlanta, Ga.; stepchildren, Lauri Cothran and husband, Jeff, and Denny Fulford and wife, Tiffany; three grandchildren; his animal companions three dogs, Joon, Bear and Jack; and four cats, Stookey, Baby, Mickey and Marty. Mr. Ramsey, a Florida native, graduated from Clearwater High School and received a bachelor's degree in business and finance from the University of South Florida in 1964. During and after attending graduate school at Florida State University, Mr. Ramsey had the opportunity to work for three consecutive Florida governors, Bryant, Bums and Kirk. Following his years in Tallahasse, Mr. Ramsey became the senior vice president and regional manager of Reynolds, Smith and Hills, Architects, Engineers and Planners in Tampa. He was a leading force in enabling the firm to become the largest in Florida and 15th largest in the United States. He organized the formation of Genesis Investments, Inc., a diverse investment and holding company and served as its president and chief executive officer for 10 years. During this time, Mr. Ramsey also served on the board of directors of the Home Shopping Network. Mr. Ramsey was appointed to the board of directors of the Florida Housing Finance Corporation by Governor Martinez in 1986 and served for 11 years, including two terms as chairman. Florida Housing provides financing for housing for lower income families in Florida. On the personal side, Jay was an avid and well-recognized fisherman for many years, passing on his knowledge and love of the sport to many, many friends. A day spent on the Gulf was one of his greatest pleasures. Another passion close to his heart was his love for four-legged creatures, continually bringing home stray animals. They provided him great comfort and pleasure during his illness. Mr. Ramsey was a member of Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla, the Tampa Yacht and Country Club and the University Club. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, 12901 Magnolia Drive, Tampa, FL 33612; LifePath Hospice and Palliative Care, 3010 W. Azeele St. , Tampa, FL 33609; or Critter Adoption ' Rescue Effort (CARE), 1528 27th St. S.E., Ruskin, FL 33570. The family wishes to extend its heartfelt gratitude to friends, personal physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals, whose tireless efforts made his journey through the last three years more bearable. Visitation will take place 9-10 a.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at Blount ' Curry Funeral Home, 605 S. MacDill Ave., Tampa, with services at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Sylvan Abbey Memorial Park, 2860 Sunset Point Road, Clearwater.
