->SKOWHEGAN -- Janice V. Smith, 67, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 6, 1939, in Augusta, the daughter of Wesley A. and Alice V. (Lyons) Smith. She graduated from Madison High School with the class of 1957 and has been a resident of the Skowhegan area for most of her life. Janice was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Skowhegan and had many callings in the church, the most recent being primary teacher. She was an ordinance worker for the Boston Massachusetts Temple until her death. Janice loved spending time with her very special grandchildren, especially going to the coast with them and attending all their school activities. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, scrap-booking and all kinds of crafting. She was a lover of nature, who especially enjoyed watching the birds and deer and hiking around the home that she and her husband built. She is with her beloved husband, Harry Joseph Smith, who died previously. She is survived by her children, Walter Thomas Smith and his wife, Elizabeth, and their children Ashley and Kailey of Madison, Judy Smith of Norridgewock, and Michael Allen Smith and his wife, Donna, of Bucksport; a sister, Joyce Walter and her husband Clifton, of Leeds; a brother, Thomas R. O'Hara Jr. of Arizona; a stepsister, Bette Shields of Millinocket; and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Malbons Mills Road in Skowhegan. Interment will be later in the spring at the East Cemetery in Skowhegan.
