Janice V. Dwyer (nee Johnson) of New Providence, N.J., passed away at her home, with her family by her side, on Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at the age of 86. Visitation will be held at the Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial, 646 Springfield Ave., Berkeley Heights, N.J., on Monday, Aug. 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m., followed by the interment in St. Teresa's Cemetery, Summit, N.J. For more information or to send condolences, please visit www.ippolitofuneralhomes.com. Janice was born in Newark, N.J., to the late Richard and Laura (nee Diehl) Johnson, and lived in Hillside, N.J., before moving to New Providence 53 years ago. She was proudly employed by the New Providence Board of Education as a hall monitor for 23 years, where she had affectionately been given the nickname "Dwe" by the students, before retiring in 1987. Janice loved spending time with her family, especially summers at Pine Beach, N.J., with her family and her cousins. Along with spending time with her children and grandchildren, she also enjoyed spending time ballroom dancing. She was also a longtime member of the New Providence United Methodist Church. Janice was able to marry her childhood sweetheart, the late Richard Dwyer, while he was on a survival leave after his Navy ship, the U.S.S. Bunker Hill, was badly damaged in a Japanese kamikaze attack during World War II. She was the loving mother of Richard Dwyer of New Providence, Terri Metrovsky and her husband, Robert, of Warren, N.J., and Lori Gallitelli and her husband, Steven, of Berkeley Heights; cherished grandmother of Jimmy, Kimberly, Kelly, Richie, Danny, Allison, Ashley, Corey, and Tyler. She is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and her dear friend, Dave Shanks. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Janice's memory to the New Providence Rescue Squad, 7 Academy St., New Providence, N.J. 07974, or New Providence United Methodist, 1441 Springfield Ave., New Providence, N.J. 07974.
