CATSKILL On Wednesday afternoon, March 30, 2005, God called our sweet Tookie to her blessed home in glory! Janice Louise Jones was the first of six children born to the late Samuel and Amelia Marjorie Jones on January 12, 1956 in Albany, N.Y. From the day she was born, she was nicknamed Tookie Her formative years were lived in Coeymans, N.Y. where she accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at the Riverview Missionary Baptist Church in Coeymans, N.Y. At Riverview Baptist, Janice was an active member of the Sunday School, Youth Ministries and in both the junior and youth choirs. In 1971, her family relocated to Catskill. Janice graduated from Catskill High School in 1974. She furthered her education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. and also attended Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson, N.Y. Janice joined Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, N.Y. in 1998. At Morning Star Baptist, she sang in the Morning Star Choir and was a member of the Morning Star Ensemble. Janice is survived by her daughter, Shawna Renee Jones of Catskill; her sisters, Sandra T. (Larry) McCreary of Landover, Md., Kimberly G. Jones-Holt of Catskill, Roxanne (Antonio) Jones Booth of Nashua, N.H.; and her brothers, Samuel-Moses Jones of New York City and Andrew D. (Kim) Jones of Catskill. She also leaves two dear and loving aunts, Mrs. Zelda Foy and Mrs. Forrest Ann Jones; adopted sisters, Elaine Grant and Euodias Thorpe; god-brothers, Kyle and Wesley Harris; her god-daughter, Theresa Vantassle; her best friends, Eleanor Erceg Diller and Patty Vantassle; a special lifelong friend, Walter Butch Brandow; a dear and special great-nephew whom she cared for like a son, Desante Holt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a supportive and caring church family. There will be a viewing from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. followed by a funeral at 12 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2005 at the 2nd Baptist Church, Main St., Catskill, N.Y.
