Janet Norman Lee, age 69, died peacefully on May 10, 2011, at Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital in Hamilton after a long illness.Janet was born in Cut Bank, Montana on January 24, 1942, to Weldon B. and Lorraine (Ferguson) Lee. While growing up in Cut Bank, she was a member of the Order of Rainbow for Girls, rising to serve as Worthy Advisor. Her favorite sport was riding her horse, "Dude." She attended Cut Bank schools, graduating from high school in 1960. While attending the University of Montana in Missoula, she met and married George M. "Sonny" Gratzer, who, following his graduation from U of M, served as an officer in the U.S. Army in Viet Nam, where he suffered war injuries. The couple subsequently resided in Missoula, where they raised four children, and Janet returned to U of M, majoring in Accounting. The marriage lasted 18 years. She later married Huson horse rancher and race horse trainer, Don Knudsen, and enjoyed 10 years on the ranch raising race horses, maintaining horse breeding records, and assisting her husband at the track before the marriage ended. Janet worked as a 911 dispatcher for many years, and then worked as a dispatcher for the Highway Patrol, being promoted to Supervisor. During her employment, she resided in Frenchtown and Huson, Montana, moving to House, New Mexico in 1997. She returned home to Montana in 2010 and resided at Discovery Care Center in Hamilton during her illness.Janet was preceded in death by her father and her granddaughter, Rachel Lynn Millhouse. She is survived by her mother, Lorraine Runyan, of House, New Mexico; children, Kurt Gratzer and Dana Millhouse of Missoula, Montana; Michael Gratzer of Florida; and Rachel Spirlin of Helena, Montana; her sisters, Patricia (Jerry) Moyers of Huntsville, Alabama; Rozanne (Duane) Dowell of Independence, Missouri; Jenny (Mike) La Sorte of Round Rock, Texas; Lisa Lee of Reno, Nevada; and Teri (Scott) Scotton of Farmington, Iowa; and her grandchildren, Sean, Kyle, Katherine, Mariah, and Ryan Millhouse, Trey Spirlin and JD Strange.Funeral arrangements are pending at the Daly-Leach Memorial Chapel in Hamilton, Montana. Cremation will take place, followed by a family memorial service.
