Jane Vanston Higgins formerly of Scranton Jane Vanston Higgins, Syracuse, formerly of Scranton, died Tuesday morning, July 15, 2008, in Syracuse after an illness. She was the widow of Jerome Aloysius Higgins. Born in Akron, Ohio, daughter of the late Joseph and Catherine Moran Vanston. She was a graduate of St. John's High School, South Scranton and the former Lackawanna Business College. She and her husband were the proprietors of the Higgins Beer Distributor, Dunmore. Surviving are a daughter, Kathleen Giblin, Syracuse; two grandsons, Daniel Giblin and Matthew and his wife, Gina and their children, Nolan and Eamon; sister-in-law, Sr. Sabine Higgins, IHM; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a brother, Gerard Vanston and son-in-law, Jerry Giblin. The Funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. in the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St., Scranton, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, 322 Chestnut St., Dunmore. Friends may call Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be at Cathedral Cemetery.
