DAVIS Jane Quinn, of Leonia, NJ, passed away on February 3, 2009. Jane was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Quinn of Newark, New Jersey. Her father was the Editor-in-Chief of the Newark Star Ledger. She was the first female graduate of Irvington High School to continue to college. Jane attended Smith College from 1932 to 1936 and concluded her studies in Astronomy and Math at Penn State University. She married Professor Kingsley Davis in 1936. In 1950 she moved to Leonia, New Jersey and resided there until her death. She served as Treasurer for the Northern Valley Consumer's Cooperative, with stores in Leonia and Ridgefield, for over 40 years. She was also the Treasurer of the MidAtlantic Group of Consumer Cooperatives. Jane was an ardent advocate of community involvement. She was one of the founding members of Leonia's League of Women Voters and a Board Member of the Community Chest. A lifelong supporter of the Arts, especially dance, Jane avidly attended and contributed donations to the Ballet at New York's Lincoln Center and the New Jersey Performance Arts Center. Among her many charitable contributions were consistent donations to Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders, and numerous Nature and Wildlife Foundations. Beloved mother of JoAnn Daily of Cambria, CA and Jefferson Davis MD of Santa Fe, NM, and treasured grandmother to Michael Daily of Santa Inez Valley, CA, the family invites friends to honor Jane's vigorous life, with a donation to their favorite charity in lieu of flowers.
