Jane Geralda Johnson, 75, loving wife and mother, died at Citrus Springs Nursing Center on Monday, June 30, 2008, following a courageous battle with Alzheimer's. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 3:00 P.M. at the Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory in Inverness. Inurnment will follow at a later date at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell. Jane was born on August 17, 1932, in Westville, Illinois, to the late Walter and Geralda DesPlanque. She graduated from Bussey High School in 1950. Jane proudly served in the U.S. Army (WAC) during the Korean War. She was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas, and later worked at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. It was while she was stationed at Fort Riley that Jane met and eventually married her husband of 57 years, E. Peter Johnson, on December 22, 1951. After Jane and Peter were discharged from the Army, they both went to work at Bell and Howell in Chicago. After several years, Peter and Jane moved to Michigan, where Peter returned to college at Michigan State. While Peter went to classes, it was Jane who worked to put her husband through college, along with proofreading and typing up term papers. After Peter's graduation, Jane started what she would call her favorite job, that of a loving mother. Being a wife and mother was the job that Jane loved most. She was very proud of her family and it showed in all the loving things that she did. Jane was a kind and gentle person who loved spending time with family and friends. People who met her were instantly drawn to her because of her generous demeanor. She made all who knew her love her. Jane would love to spend time listening to and singing to the oldies. She is survived by her husband, Peter; daughters Kathleen (Charles) Munson, Atco, NJ, and Linda (Brad) Ambroz, Savannah, GA, and son Peter of Ocala, FL; and grandchildren Charles, Cayce, Cary, Timothy and Taylor Munson and Ethan Ambroz. She also leaves behind a loving sister, June Gordeo, and brother, Albert DesPlanque, along with many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Adeleine; one brother, Walter; and two grandchildren, Max and Emily Munson.
