Jane G. Smithof BerkshireJane G. Smith, 73, went peacefully to be with her Lord, Monday evening, January 22, 2007. Jane is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, Arnold P. Smith. Also surviving are her daughters, Valorie (A. Richard) Hammond, Newark Valley, Pamela Grace Kerr, Tully, N.Y.; her sons, Allan Clifford (Cynthia) Smith, Cicero, N.Y., David Arnold Smith, Berkshire; her grandchildren, Erica Hanson, Jeffrey Kerr, Alison Kerr, Philip Smith; and great-grandchildren, Jacob Andrew, Jillian Grace and Jenna Rose; her brothers, John Green, Chateaugay, N.Y., and James (Flossie) Green, Ellenburg Depot, N.Y.; brother-in-law, Robert Legacy, Burke, N.Y.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Jerome and Grace (Barnes) Green; and sister, Joanne Legacy. Jane was born on April 3, 1933 in Chateaugay, was a graduate of Chateaugay High School and a long time member of Frontier Lodge, OES Chapter 203 in Burke, N.Y. She was a charter member of the Christ Methodist Church in Sherrill, NY and an associate member of the United Methodist Church of Berkshire where she participated in the choir and the United Methodist Women. In her earlier years, Jane was a dedicated nurse's aide at Riverview Manor Nursing Home in Owego for 20 years, and a Girl Scout Leader. She treasured her family and had many happy memories of summers spent with them at the cottage on Chateaugay Lake.A period of visitation will be held on Friday, June 26th, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the MacPherson Funeral Home, Newark Valley.
