June 5, 2004 Jane Elizabeth Powell, 70, of Soddy-Daisy, TN, beloved wife, mother and grandmother, entered into the presence of her Lord at her home. She was born September 27, 1933 in Troy. The only child of Elmer and Mildred Williams, Jane graduated fromSyracuse University with a degree in music and voice. She was very active as an organist and vocalist in many churches, including Oak Street Baptist and Hendon Baptist. Together with her husband, Rev. George Powell, they founded Grace Chapel in Skaneateles in 1977, serving until 1989. She was a music teacher, worked with Christian women's clubs and taught women's Bible studies. She was director of Senior Services with the Salvation Army as well as the Soddy-Daisy Senior Center. Jane is survived by her husband, Rev. George Powell; sons, Gary R. Hollis of Edgewater, MD, David R. Hollis of Skaneateles and Mark C. Hollis of Portland, OR; daughters, Linda Knudsen of Mountainside, NJ and Wendy Mathys of Soddy-Daisy, TN; and four beloved grandchildren. A service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace Chapel in Skaneateles with Rev. James Osborne officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Skaneateles. Calling hours will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Grace Chapel. Arrangements are by the Buranich Funeral Home, 5431 W. Genesee St., Camillus. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Grace Chapel, 1674 Cherry Valley Turnpike, Skaneateles, NY 13152.
