Jane Dickinson Morrison-Bentley, 62 BLUE POINT -- Jane Tudie Bentley passed at her home on Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2007, after a long illness. Tudie was born in East Orange, N.J. on Dec. 18, 1944, a daughter of Philemon Richard Dickinson and Jane Evans Sweeny. As an Army Brat, her father had played a major role in the development of Allied radar systems in WWII; Tudie spent her early childhood at various stations in Europe. As a young woman Tudie attended the prestigious private Hillsdale High School, founded in 1906 as a College Preparatory School for Girls. Accepted by Connecticut College, Tudie left school to marry Donald Craig Morrison Jr., on October 29, 1966, an Army Captain on his way to Vietnam. When her husband became a pilot for Delta, the family moved from the Cincinnati area to Marietta, Ga., where Tudie worked as an Aerobics Instructor, a Macy's representative for Royal Dalton China, and did a brief stint as a model for Kodak, resulting in herself and her children being featured in a national ad campaign. Returning to college at Kennesaw University in Georgia, she completed a Bachelor's Degree and then continued on to the University of Georgia for a Master's in Social Work. A Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Tudie went to work at the De Kalb Counter Crisis Intervention Center in Atlanta. Tudie met Steven Jay Bentley, of Scarborough, in 1992, at a conference on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder in Atlanta; they were married on May 22, 1999, in Saco, where they resided until moving to Blue Point in the summer of 2006. In 1995 Tudie was diagnosed with Huntington's Chorea, an extremely rare genetically transmitted neurological brain disorder that attacks the mind, and thereby the body, unrelentingly until death. Tudie loved life and people. Her family and friends meant the world to her. She never missed a birthday, a wedding or any other occasion of importance. She loved to keep moving and she and her husband traveled extensively through Europe, South America and the United States until it was simply no longer possible. Jane Dickinson Morrison-Bentley Tudie faced her disease with the same courage, grace, spirit and humor that she had lived her life. While savagely fighting every loss of independence, she never allowed herself to become self absorbed in the drama of her disease; she never lost her sense of humor, and she blessed those around her with thousands of brilliant smiles and very few tears to her very last breath. Predeceased by her father, Tudie is survived by her husband Steve; her mother, Jane Dickinson Barrows and husband Lanford of Cincinnati; son Donald Craig Morrison III, wife Courtney, and her grandchildren Sydney Jane and Michael Craig, all of Boone, N.C.; a daughter, Heather and husband Philip Graydon Bartley III of Corvallis, Ore.; two brothers, Philemon Richard Dickinson Jr., wife Ann Hollaway Fry, niece Erin Strub and husband Tony, and grandnieces Haley and Camden, all of Cincinnati, Ohio; Peter Dickinson, wife Sarah, and nieces Jenny and Jonathan of Charlottesville, Va.; a sister, Amy Beckwith, husband David, and nieces Olivia, Peter and Ned, of Boston; Aunt Ruth Terri Perkins and husband Richard of Pine Knoll Shores, N.C.; and stepmother Lorraine Dickinson of Santa Fay, N.M. Tudie is also survived by an extended family of caretakers who have helped to make her last years as comfortable as possible. Kelly Farrell, Ellen Anderson, August Dow, and Erica Robinson, all of Portland; Allison Nicholson of Lyman; Darlene Mitchell of Biddeford and Lindsay Greene of Scarborough. The family would also like to extend a special thanks to Beacon Hospice and especially Sue, Bonnie, Ellie and Pam. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, at the Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road in South Portland. Tudie's remains will be interred at the Dunstan Cemetery in Scarborough. Farewell to thee, my darling companion. Donations can be made to: Huntington's Disease Society of America 505 Eighth Avenue, Suite 902 New York, New York 10018
