James Thomas Fleming, 84, North Port and formerly of Sarasota, died Oct. 18, 2004, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte. He was born Oct. 30, 1919, in Bally James Duff, Ireland, and came from Levittown, N.Y., in 1977 to Sarasota and North Port. He retired in 1975 as a teamster for the wholesale milk industry. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Charlotte County, where he was a past grand knight and the former district deputy for the state of Florida. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW of Charlotte and Sarasota counties and the Port Charlotte Irish American Club. Survivors include daughters Margaret S. of Port Charlotte, Sister Virginia O.P. of New York, and Terri A. Jones of North Port; sons James C. of Houston, Kevin P. of North Port, and John T. of Boca Raton; and seven grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Farley Funeral Home, North Port Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Friday at San Pedro Catholic Church, North Port. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Dominic, 555 Albany Ave., Amityville, NY 11701.
