->James Fraser StuartHyde Park - James Fraser Stuart, 87, died Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was a local resident for 51 years, previously of Scranton, PA. Born in Larkhall, Scotland on February 14, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas and Mary McLuggage Stuart. He served in the Royal Air Force in WW II. On August 18, 1956 in Westminster Presbyterian Church in Scranton, PA, he married Martha "Marty" Williams. Mrs. Stuart predeceased him in 2009, after 51 years of marriage. A graduate of Dutchess Community College with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration, Jim worked for Western Publishing for many years until his retirement. He was a member of the Hyde Park United Methodist Church. Long active in the community, Jim served on the Hyde Park planning board for 5 years, was a Hyde Park Town Councilman for 8 years, a volunteer for Hyde Park Meals on Wheels, and a Northern Dutchess Caregiver. He was a member of the Poughkeepsie Masonic Lodge #266, a co-founder of the F.W. Vanderbilt Garden Association, and was instrumental in establishing Hyde Park AARP Chapter #456 along with Jim Traudt. He is survived by his daughter, Laurie S. Ronk and husband, Jeffrey A., of Hyde Park; grandchildren, Carley Ann Ronk and Ian Stuart Ronk; nephew, Lindsay W. Orr and wife, Priscilla, of Saugerties; great-nephew, William Orr of Los Angeles, CA; and his beloved canine companions, Luke and Cody. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by his son, James Fraser Stuart, Jr.; and sister, Jean Orr. Jim and Marty are grateful to Laurie, Jeff and children for sharing their home since 2004, making their final years so meaningful and happy. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 1 to 4 pm, Saturday, September 3, 2011 at Sweet's Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park. A memorial service will be held at 3 PM with the Rev. Arlene Wilhelm officiating. Jim's ashes will be buried in the family plot in Scranton. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia/Lymphoma Society, 5 Computer Dr. West, Suite 100, Albany, NY 12205; or, Shriner's Hospitals for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104; or, the F.W. Vanderbilt Garden Assoc., PO Box 239, Hyde Park, NY 12538. Arrangements are under the direction of Sweet's Funeral Home, Inc., Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
