Stephens, James Robert, 58, of Fort Lauderdale, FL passed away suddenly August 7, 2006. Jim was born on December 17, 1947 in Columbus, OH, to Betty and Avery Stephens. He attended grade schools in Western Springs, IL and graduated from Lyons Township High School in 1966. He graduated from Memphis State University in 1970 with a degree in Business. Following a career in the bond business in Jackson, MS and MultiVest Securities in New York City, he became the president of Avery Development Company, a real estate developer in Boca Raton, developing town homes in Pompano, as well as Fort Lauderdale. Most recently he was a partner of T.S.A. Capital, L.L.P. Jim will be remembered as an outgoing and giving person who enjoyed life. He had a passion and vast knowledge for autos and motorcycles. He was very civic minded and served as chairman of the Board for Easter Seals, and a member of the board of directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Broward County. Jim and friends participated in the Bikers Ball in Daytona, a charitable motorcycling event which is a fund raiser benefiting the Boys and Girls Club. He was also the current chairman of the Broward County Sheriff's Advisory Council which assists the Sheriff's office deputies and families in times of crisis. Jim is survived by his mother, Betty Banker Stephens of LaGrange Park, IL; his sister, Carol Stephens Howell (Craig); a nephew, Charles Stephens Howell (Heather) of Baltimore, MD; and a niece, Carrie Banker Howell of Evansville, IN. He was preceded in death by his father, Avery Livingston Stephens.
