ObituaryJames (Jim) Robert Powell of Cape Coral passed away September 5, 2005. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky in June 14, 1927 to Joseph & Leona (McCollum) Powell. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Jack and Joseph Powell. Jim is survived by his wife Kathie, two sons, James R. and wife Beth Powell of Lehigh Acres and George "Andy" and wife Donna Powell of North Fort Myers; sister Elizabeth & husband Edgar Greenup of Louisville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, James R. III, Sean Michael, Andrew Christian, Amanda Lee, Andrea Susan Powell and Noah Parson; three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.Jim enlisted in the Merchant Marines at the age 15 during World War II. He worked at many trades and then received his Masters degree from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana. Jim went on to become President and retire from the Utility Divisions of GAC Corporation/Avatar corp. and Vice-President of Avatar Corporation. He received several awards for his work including recognition from various government offices including at least two Water Management Districts in Florida and the City of Cape Coral. Jim's influence and foresight on many aspects of the water resource, supply, management, utility services and development issues throughout Cape Coral, Southwest Florida and the State will be felt for many years to come.Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held at the First Church of God, 2213 Country Club Blvd., Cape Coral on Friday, September 9, at 11:00 AM. The service will be directed by the Reverend Trevor Belcher.
