A burial service will follow the church service in Oak Hill Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alpheus LaFayette Powell and Alma Gresham Powell of Prattville, Al., and a granddaughter, Karen Ellen "Kari" Powell. Survivors include his wife, Madeira Durden Powell; sons, Joseph Alpheus Powell (Karen), James Thomas Powell, Jr., daughter, Susan Powell Poteat (Carl); garndsons, James Kenneth Powell (Suzette), Joseph Alpheus Powell, Jr. (Kacey), Jerry Allen Powell, Samuel Carl Poteat; granddaughters, Sarah Madeira Poteat Harmon (Bo), Amy Lee Powell; great- grandson, James Kenneth Powell, Jr.; great-granddaughters, Kacy Rose Powell, Anna Lynn Powell, Ellen Claire Powell. Pallbearers are Jake, Joe, Jerry and Jamey Powell, Sam Poteat, and Bo Harmon.
