James was born in St. Joseph, KY to his late parents, Gladys and George Peters. He is also predeceased by his sister, Margaret Smolak; and his brothers, Robert and Gerald Peters. James is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Carol Osborne Peters; sons, Daniel G. (Sandra) and Thomas W. both of Chesapeake; and one grandson, Joshua Peters. James served in the US Air Force in Korea, North Africa, and France. He was a Master Mechanic and was a great help to many with their cars. He retired in 1996 as Service Manager from Gobe Iron in Norfolk. His passion was racing. He built cars that his son, Dan, raced at local tracks. He was an avid fisherman and taught his sons to hunt, fish, and trap. He raised many beautiful beds of flowers at his homes. His zest for life and stories will be missed by his friends and family. The family will receive callers at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Twiford Chapel, Chesapeake, VA on Friday, October 1st from 6 pm till 8 pm. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.altmeyer.com.
