Pittsburgh, Pa. - James Milligan "Big Jim" Wilson passed away on February 2, 2009. Big Jim was born on April 14, 1941 in Pittsburgh, Pa. and attended Edgewood High School.Recruited to play football at the University of Georgia, he was a 1964 Consensus All-American and All-SEC offensive tackle on Coach Vince Dooley's first team at UGA. He earned the Most Valuable Lineman award in the Bulldog victory in the 1964 Sun Bowl, played in the 1965 Senior Bowl, was a member of the 1965 College All-Star Team and was a member of the UGA All-Time Team, 1950-1975. He was inducted into the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in 2001, the Penn. Sports Hall of Fame, Western Division, in 2002, the UGA Circle of Honor in 2005 and the 75th Anniversary, All-Sun Bowl Team, 2008. Coach Dooley called him the strongest player he'd ever seen. Professional football teams included the San Francisco 49ers (1965-66), Atlanta Falcons (1967) and Los Angeles Rams (1968-1971). He was voted to the All-NFL Rookie team in 1965. After his football career ended due to an on-the-field injury, he helped to break racial barriers and sought to establish union representation in professional wrestling. Upon leaving football and wrestling, he was involved in Georgia real estate development and was active in that for the rest of his life.Big Jim leaves behind six children, six grandchildren, two brothers, a sister and Nita, all of whom loved him dearly. Big Jim was devoted to his family and to the Georgia Bulldogs, and he will be sorely missed.A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on February 13, 2009 at Peachtree Presbyterian Church, Wilson Chapel, 3434 Roswell Road NW, Atlanta, GA 30305.
