James M. McGowan of Lebanon, N.J., passed away peacefully on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 70. Born Aug. 5, 1941, in Jersey City, N.J., Jim graduated from Snyder High School in 1959. Along with his brothers he owned and operated Delta Insulation, a commercial insulation business. Prior to moving to Lebanon in 1978, he lived in Parsippany, N.J. An avid reader, Jim enjoyed the outdoors, American history, studying alternative medicine and nutrition and spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family. Jim was predeceased by his beloved wife, Judith M. (Dalley) McGowan, whom he was married to for 30 years; his parents, Paul and Eleanor (Johnson) McGowan, and his brothers Paul W. and Kenneth McGowan. Jim is survived by his dear wife of 10 years, Judith A. (Terkelsen) Baumann McGowan; his daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Herbert Leckie of Lebanon and Kerry and Richard Maslanka of Lebanon; two stepsons and their wives, Jeffrey and Sandra Baumann of Pittstown, N.J., and Gary and Kristina Baumann of Basking Ridge, N.J.; six grandchildren, James and Mollie Leckie; Emelia and Owen Maslanka and Andrew and Alex Baumann; his sister, Patricia O'Neill of Gastonia, N.C., as well as many nieces, nephews and friends who will miss his sense of humor and his gift of storytelling. Funeral services will be private. Arrangements are under the care of the Scarponi-Bright Funeral Home in Lebanon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you share a favorite memory of Jim with them and 'cheers' to a life well-lived and loved.
