James L. Carter, 80, Punta Gorda, died Sept. 23, 2005. He was born Dec. 11, 1924, in Middle Grove, Mo., and came to Punta Gor da in 1988 from St. Louis. He was a salesman for Standard Oil Co. before retiring and served in the Navy during World War II. He was a member of Spirit of St. Louis Masonic Lodge 27 in Webster Groves, Mo., and the Moola Temple of the Shrine in St. Louis. Survivors include his wife, Ruby J.; a daughter, Candace Knight of Memphis, Tenn.; a stepdaughter, Sandra Stinett of St. Louis; twin sons, Richard of Dallas and Randall H. of St. Louis; stepsons Forrest Crawford of South Haven, Miss., and Hoyt Crawford of Fairfield Bay, Ark.; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandson. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, with the service following, at Roberson Funeral Home, Punta Gorda Chapel. Memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 459 Gill St., Punta Gorda, FL 33950.
