James "Chip" J. Shea III a longtime executive at the Luhrs Marine Group, died Oct. 12, 2005, after a long and courageous battle against esophageal cancer at the age of 52.Chip moved to St. Augustine when he joined the Luhrs Marine Group more than a decade ago to lead the marketing efforts of their boat manufacturing companies and service yard -- Hunter, Luhrs, Mainship, Silverton and St. Augustine Marine. He previously lived in Massachusetts, where he worked for Boston Whaler Boats and prior to that, The Milton Bradley Company. He was born and raised in Springfield, Mass.Chip was well known in the marine industry as a marketing innovator and a leader of many marine manufacturing associations.He is survived by his wife, Stacey and son, Jay. His father and his wife, James J. Jr. and Marisa Shea, his brother, Tom Shea, his sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Steven Argosy, his sister, Barbara Hatten, his sister and brother-in-law, Tina and David Pelissier and many other family and friends. He is predeceased by his mother, Marilyn Shea.Services will be handled by Craig Funeral Home.Calling hours and vigil prayers will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 with prayers at 7 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 17 at the Cathedral-Basilica of Saint Augustine.
