MANCHESTER - James J. Powell, 79, of Manchester, died Nov. 13, 2012, at the Ridgewood Center in Bedford after a lengthy illness. He was born on May 25, 1933, in Lebanon, the son of George and Eileen (Braddel) Powell. He grew up in Lebanon and was a graduate of Hanover High School. He also attended the University of New Hampshire and later relocated to Manchester. Jim was a U.S. Army veteran and served in Company C of the 35th Infantry Regiment during the Korean Conflict. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed his time spent hunting, fishing and hiking. He was a member of the Audubon Society, and the Appalachian Mountain Club. He was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Simone Powell, in February 1997. Members of his family include his son, Alan Powell and his wife, Lisa of Arlington, Vt.; his two daughters, Tina Powell and Allison Powell, both of Manchester; two grandchildren, Dante Clarke and Nathan Clarke, and his brother, Richard Powell of Golden Colo., as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. . SERVICES: Visitation will be held on Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St., corner of Beech Street in Manchester. A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Augustin Cemetery.
