POLK CITY -- Mr. James Lewis Grimes of Polk City died of cancer Tuesday (Sept. 24, 2002) at home. He was 70.Born in Lakeland on July 20, 1932, he was a lifelong resident of Polk County. He was a retired grove ranch foreman and a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church in Polk City.Mr. Grimes is survived by his wife of 50 years, Barbara Grimes; sons, Robert Lee Grimes, Lacoochee, Gregory Mitchell Grimes and Jessie Dale Grimes, both of Polk City, Randy Leonard Grimes, Walterboro, S.C., and James Allen Grimes, Lakeland; daughter, Gloria Beatrice Stalnaker, Madison; mother, Gracie Brown Grimes Deeson Renard, Lakeland; brother, Charles Grimes, Polk City; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Kersey Funeral Home, 108 E. Lake Stella Drive, Auburndale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Green Pond Baptist Church, Polk City.
