JAMES "HERBERT" GODWINJames "Herbert" Godwin of Pensacola passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2008 at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Lucille "Tootsie" Fails and his daughter, Glenda Fay.Herbert enjoyed many years as a buyer/decorator/sales rep for Marston and Quina Furniture of Pensacola. He loved furniture sales and dedicated the majority of his life to serving many loyal and dedicated clients throughout the Gulf Coast area. Herbert is survived by granddaughters, Linda Thornton Sholar (J. B.) of Beulaville, NC and Susie Thornton Mabire of Pensacola; great grandchildren, Tara Sandlin (Dale) of Beulaville,NC, Brandi McGee (Jason) of Chesapeake, VA, and Miles Mabire of Pensacola; great-great grandchildren, Braxton, Zoe, Skylar, and Maddox; and a brother Eddie Godwin (Landis) of Opp, AL.Herbert also leaves behind a special friend, Mildred Powell, of Jay and many close friends that gathered daily at the Senior Centers at Bayview in Pensacola and in Jay. He lovingly referred to the gathering places as "Old Folks' Heaven." Not only will Herbert be missed by those who knew him, but also by his faithful dog, Meisha.A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 8, 2008 from 6-9 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Monday June 9, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Jay Funeral Home with Bro. J. B. Sholar officiating services. A graveside service will be held on Monday June 9, 2008 at 4:30 p.m. at Bayview Cemetery in Pensacola. Pallbearers will be Miles Mabire, Braxton Sandlin, Sonny Thornton, Matthew Myers, Paul Moczulski, James Barker, and David Bryant. Jay Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
