James Francis Jim Garvey, age 68, of Medway, MA passed away on November 21, 2011 after a long illness. He is survived by his loving wife Susan Garvey. Jim was born on October 3, 1943 to the late June (Sobieski) and John Garvey in Natick, MA. He graduated from Natick High School in 1961. Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on September 30, 1961 serving honorably until September 29, 1964 and re-enlisted on February 28, 1967 serving honorably until March 17, 1970. A highly decorated Vietnam veteran, Jim was the recipient of numerous Purple Hearts, the Bronze Star with Combat V, the Silver Star, a Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and a Presidential Unit Citation. For 25 years he dedicated himself to the protection of the people of Framingham as a firefighter until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of the International Association of Firefighters | Local 1652 of Framingham and the Natick Elks. In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his step-daughter Venessa Salvucci of Somerville; his brothers Jack Garvey and his wife Erma of Medfield and Richard Garvey and his wife Nina of Framingham; his sisters, Madeline Norton of Hopkinton, Margie Young and her husband Jim of Dracut, and Linda Curley of Holliston; his brother-in-law Danny Norton of Framingham; and many loving nieces and nephews as well as a multitude of friends. He was pre-deceased by his sisters Janet Norton, Jean Blake, and Barbara Benedict. Visiting hours will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park St. (at Natick Common) NATICK on Friday morning, November 25, 2011 from 8:30 | 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patricks Church, 44 East Central St. Natick at 11:30 AM. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Patricks Cemetery, Natick.
