Watkinsville - James "Buddy" Edwin Smith, 40, of 1071 McReeís Mill Road, passed away Sunday, December 5, 2004.A native of Clarke County, Mr. Smith was the son of James Smith of Athens and Frankie Bellew Messer of Winterville. He was the owner of Sonnyís Carpets in Athens. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Madison County. Buddy fell in love and married Karen Dorsey of Statham. They made their home in Oconee County where she was born and raised.Survivors in addition to his parents include his wife, Karen Dorsey Smith; sons, Sonny and James Smith; sisters, Pam Weisman, Tammy Smith Allen and Laurie Smith; brother, Jeff Smith; and a number of nieces and nephews.Funeral services will be held 3 pm Thursday, December 9, 2004 in Bernstein Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Northcutt officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Allen, Oscar Parada, Craig Guntharp, James Evans, Benny Burgess and Jeff Smith.The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 at Bernstein Funeral Home.Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. www.bernsteinfuneralhome.com
