James D. White James D. White, 55, a retired associate professor in the Florida State University School of Criminology and Criminal Justice for 24 years, died Friday, Aug. 23, 2002. The service will be at 3 p.m. EDT Monday at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, Timberlane Road Chapel (893-4177), with burial at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park.Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT today at the funeral home. Originally from Fort Walton Beach, he had lived in Tallahassee since 1967. He graduated from FSU in 1969 and earned his Juris Doctorate from Stetson University in 1974. He was an assistant state attorney in the Office of the State Attorney in Tallahassee from 1974 to 1977.During his career, Mr. White also served as a detective sergeant with the Leon County Sheriff's Office and as a reserve police officer with the Tallahassee Police Dept. He was a longtime consultant to police agencies and attorneys in the criminal justice field and also provided legal assistance to the office of the governor under Governor Graham.He was well-known as a dedicated teacher and law enforcement professional. Mr. White was a private pilot and aviation enthusiast. He also was a Mason, affiliated with Jackson Lodge in Tallahassee. He enjoyed raising dogs and was a military history buff. Survivors include two daughters, Melony Anne White of Tallahassee and April Lee White of Orlando; his brother, Joseph S. White of Tallahassee; and two grandchildren, James Dakota Painter and Savannah Ashlyn Onkey.
