James Edward (Ed) Cooley, 73, of Greenville, died Saturday, July 14, 2007, at his home.Born in Pelzer, he was a son of the late William Gattis and Minnie Lee Revels Cooley.Mr. Cooley served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was employed at Western Electric/AT&T, now Lucent, for 42 years.He was a member of Berea First Baptist Church and served as lighting director for the Living Christmas Tree for over 25 years. He loved young people and was a chaperone for youth and middle and high school choir tours for 30 years. Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Earline Stroud Cooley; three daughters, Robin C. Elliott (Randy) of Greenville, Debra C. Galloway (Joey) of Easley, and Deonda C. Weldon (Jim) of Clemson; two sisters, Anne Thompson and Jean Cooley, both of Atlanta; four brothers, Joe Cooley of Belton, Charles Cooley and Richard Cooley of Pelzer and Carol Cooley of Waterford, Conn.; four grandchildren, Michelle Elliott and Taylor Elliott of Greenville, Alison Welborn White (Jason) of Walhalla, and Arrington Welborn of Easley; and a special aunt, Hazel Roberson of Pelzer.Funeral services will be Monday at 6 p.m. at Thomas McAfee Funeral Home, Northwest Chapel, with visitation and reception immediately following the service. A private graveside service will be Tuesday at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
