WOODRUFF, SC-- James Charles "Jake" Hames, 83, of 103 Waddell Road, Woodruff, SC passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Clyde and Sarah Rice Wall. He was a car salesman for Woodruff Motor Sales for more than 40 years until he retired and was an American Security Guard for MEMC for many years. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters during WWII and was a member of the Army National Guard. He was a member of Woodruff First Baptist Church and a member of the Goodwill Sunday School Class. He was a Master Mason for 56 years, member of the Hejaz Shrine Temple for 46 years, a member of the Knights Templer, a member of the American Legion for 56 years and the VFW. He was also a charter member of Three Pines Country Club serving on the board of directors.Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years, Lura Kate Crooke Hames of the home, one son; Clyde Robert "Bob" Hames of Lugoff, SC one daughter; Juanita "Nita" Hames High of Saluda, N.C. three grandchildren; Gabe Armour, Nikki Hames, Landon Hames and one great-grandchild Keegan Armour.Visitation will be held 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm Thursday, May 4, 2006 at Woodruff First Baptist Church prior to the 4:00 p.m. funeral services at Woodruff First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Andrew Shull and Rev. Skip Snyder. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery, Woodruff.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice, 120 Heywood Avenue.
