HAMILTON, Dr. James Arthur Roy May 1, 1919 May 29, 2009 With great sadness the family announces the passing of Roy Hamilton as a result of complications following a fall. Surrounded by family he passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospital in Comox, British Columbia. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 63 years, their sons Doug and Rod, predeceased sons Brian and Ian, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, brother Douglas Hamilton, sister Muriel Crump and predeceased sister Jeannie Mercer. Born in Farmlingham, England, he moved to New Westminster, British Columbia with his mother, father, brother and two sisters. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from the University of British Columbia, he went on to finish his Doctorate at the University of Washington. He was employed in fish research activities for the International Pacific Salmon and Fish Commission in B.C. and did work related to the restoration of sockeye salmon on the Fraser River. He moved with his wife and sons to Beaverton, Oregon in 1956 where he accepted a position as fisheries biologist for Pacific Power and Light. He remained there for 44 years performing fish research principally focused on salmon protection. He was an active member of his church, charities and business associations, including serving as the President of the American Fisheries Association. He and his wife moved to Comox, B.C. in 1999 where they could be close to their summer residence on Denman Island, his favorite family retreat. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 6th at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of St. John the Divine, 579 5th Street, Courtenay, B.C.
