AUBURNDALE James Arthur Cavanaugh of Auburndale died May 18, 2008. He was the beloved husband of Elaine (Callahan) Cavanaugh; devoted father of David Cavanaugh of Wayland and Lynne Cavanaugh and her husband, James Kitendaugh, of Wayland; brother of Rachel Belanger and her husband, Edmond, of Manchester, Conn., and the late John and Merritt Cavanaugh; loving grandfather of David, Benjamin and Katherine Kitendaugh. He also is survived by his sisters-in-law, Eva and Claire Cavanaugh and many nieces and nephews. Jim was born in Newport, Vt., where he graduated from Newport Public Schools. He attended Framingham State College. Jim was a member of the 3rd Armored Division of the First Army and served in the European Theater Operation in World War II, where he fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He lived in Newton for 56 years and was a former member of Corpus Christi Church in Auburndale and a past commander for the Vernon McCaulay American Legion Post #270 in Boston. He was an avid watch and clock collector. Jim worked as a master pastry chef at The Meadows, Parker House and at Brandeis University. He taught culinary arts in Boston for 25 years and spent summers in Washington, Maine, where he was a pastry chef at Medomak Camp for more than 25 years. A memorial service will be held at United Parish of Auburndale, 64 Hancock St., Auburndale, Wednesday, May 21, at 11 a.m. Interment service is private.
