->James A. Carpenter, 79, of Turnpike Terrace, Susquehanna, passed away unexpectedly at home on Wednesday, November 3, 2010. He was born on October 10, 1931 in Herrick Center, PA, the son of the late Kenneth and Helen Carpenter. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, John Pirnik; and great-granddaughter, Calene Crawford. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dolores (Gilleran); his daughters, Patricia and Don Carpenter, Naples, FL, and Debbie Pirnik, Susquehanna, PA; his grandchildren, Tammy and Matt Bennett, Shannon and Chad Crawford, Tim and Robin Seagrave, Brian and Tara Kelly and Ashley Kelly; his great-grandchildren, Zach Secoolish, Paige O'Hara, Dylan Crawford, Gavin Crawford, Lacey O'Hara, Emily Bennett, Jared Brown, Trent Seagrave and Maxx Kelly; also surviving are his siblings, Gwen McKee, Betty DiLuzio, Shelby Carpenter, Vivian "Peanuts" Westbrook, Kenneth and Deloris Carpenter, Janice and Joe Convertino, Rodger and Vicki Carpenter, Larry Carpenter and Terry and Gloria Carpenter; sister-in-laws, Rose Potter, Helen Gilleran and Claire Johnson; several nieces and nephews. He was retired from Kason Hardware after 28 years of service as a machine operator and a spot welder. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. "Gramps" was a special gift to those that knew and loved him. He was always smiling with a smile that could light up a room. He was always willing to help anybody that needed it and he lived life to the fullest. Gramps adored his family from his wife down to his great-grandchildren. He was an avid baseball and basketball fan and enjoyed playing and watching both. He had a hook shot that never failed and he could still hold his own on the basketball court. He was truly a devoted husband of nearly 58 years and a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. Gramps was well-known for his sense of humor and his kind heart. Words cannot express how much he will be missed by his family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday November 8, 2010, at 8:00pm at the Hennessey's Funeral Home, 747 Jackson Ave., Susquehanna, PA with the Rev. James Rouse officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8pm.
