MORRIS, Jack HughJune 11, 1922 – April 7, 2015Surrounded by his family, in his 92nd year, Jack passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia. Born to Rex and Charlotte Morris, Jack grew up in the Dunbar neighbourhood where he made lifelong friends and many great memories. He attended Kerrisdale Elementary, Point Grey and Magee High Schools. A proud moment in Jack's life was winning the 1940 football championship with the Magee senior boys' team. Jack started his working life in the family business, E. A. Morris Company. He joined the RCAF and became a bomber pilot in WWII where his calm, steady demeanour served him well. In Edmonton, he trained navigators on Anson bombers. Later, in England, he was training on Lancaster bombers when the war ended. After the war, he met the love of his life, Barbara Butler. They married in 1950 and made a home in Kerrisdale where they resided for over 50 years. There they raised their children, welcomed friends and family, hosted many parties and took in a succession of beloved cats. Jack and Barbara also spent years of enjoyment at their Kawkawa Lake cottage. Jack often spoke of these as "the best years of my life." He enjoyed parties (especially his birthdays), card games with the "99 gang" and playing golf. Jack was predeceased by his wife Barbara in 2005, and his dear siblings Claude, Cassie and twin brother, Dick. He leaves behind a loving and admiring family: children John and Marilyn, son-in-law Steve and, the light of his life, grandson Jesse. He will also be greatly missed by his nieces Frances, Rosemary and Susan; nephew Morris; their families; and by his step-grandchildren Jeremy and Angela Elnicki. All will remember Jack's warm smile and shared laughs that came so easily. Jack had a generous heart, a sharp mind and was more than just a little stubborn. He was dignified, gentlemanly, loyal and tough. In 2011, due to declining health, he took up residence at Brock Fahrni Pavilion where he became active in the Artworks Studio. With the kind help of Carol and Rita, he spent many pleasant hours painting and creating beautiful pieces of art. The family is grateful to the staff of Brock Fahrni for their good care. For those wishing, a donation in Jack's memory may be made to the Artworks Program at Brock Fahrni through the Tapestry Foundation, Providence Health. In June, there will be a small family gathering at Mountain View Cemetery to remember Jack and to celebrate his good, long life.
