JUNE (BAER) DAVIS BURLINGTON - June Gloria Davis died peacefully at Fletcher Allen Health Care surrounded by close friends on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010. She was born on June 27, 1915 in Minneapolis, Minn. the daughter of William and Katheryne Baer. June was the wife of Herbert T. Davis, who predeceased her on Dec. 25, 1987. June and her late husband founded the Burlington Optical Center and were instrumental in the development and growth of the Humane Society of Chittenden County, Vt. She cared for and loved all of God's creatures. She never underestimated the power of animals to heal and would bring them to local hospitals to visit with patients. After her husband passed on, she continued her work with the Humane Society as a board member, benefactor and general adviser. The Humane Society of Chittenden County's June Davis award is awarded annually to their person of the year. "Kindness is healing" was a phrase that June spoke often and always sharing a smile and personal generosity represented how she lived her life. She has a strong belief that God cared about us and would communicate with her. With these beliefs and life values, June was an inspiration to many people and was truly a woman to look up to and admire. June loved to travel the world with her husband and close friends to appreciate the world and learn about the places and people she visited. June's favorite time of year was Christmas. She would spend a great deal of time getting her home ready for the holidays and took joy in the spirit of the season. June volunteered for several area organizations especially the American Red Cross. Because she thought it was so important to continue contributing while she was able, she created a tarradiddle about her age to continue volunteering. June was passionate about helping and not just causes and animals. She assisted individuals in our community who needed help. June was a model in her younger years and maintained that style, polish and true beauty inside as well as out. Although June had so surviving children, she is survived by nephews-in-law and nieces-in-law, Charles Davidson, Steven Davidson, Sandy Davidson, Sharon Gershenbaum, Howard Stone, and Elaine Warsaw, her special friend Susan Wood and many close friends. Her warmth caused many to feel as though she was "a second mother." She considered her four-legged companions her special children. Her home almost always had a special child. We would like to thank the staff at Green Mountain Nursing Home for taking care of June in her last months with a special thank you to Ginger Santore. We would also like to extend our great appreciation for the wonderful care June received at Fletcher Allen Health Care in the Emergency Room and on McClure 3 and 4 and Shepardson 4. In lieu of flowers, friends may contribute to the Chittenden County Humane Society, 142 Kindness Ct., South Burlington, Vt. 05403. A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010 at 1 p.m. in Elmwood-Meunier Funeral Home, 97 Elmwood Ave. Visitation is from 12 noon until the service.
