Michigan, Holt - Lola Joyce (Russell) Carter, age 70, died January 30, 2015 in Holt, MI from complications of Alzheimer’s disease. Joyce was born an only child to Herbert B. and Flora G. Russell on August 1, 1944 in Little Rock, AR. Joyce married Frank L. Carter in Jonesboro, AR on September 12, 1964. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in September 2014. Joyce is survived by her husband Frank of Leslie, MI, two daughters, Susan (Chris) Fata of Holt, MI and Andrea (Chris) Fleming of Hillsborough, NC, and 5 grandchildren, Spencer, Cameron and Luciana Fata of Holt, MI and Adalyn and Bennett Fleming of Hillsborough, NC. Joyce graduated with high honors from the University of Arkansas and is a lifetime member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Joyce was an excellent seamstress and her passion was fabrics, designing and making her clothing. She developed a line of patterns and later traveled nationally as sewing consultant for Bernina Sewing Machine Company. A memorial celebration will be held 3 p.m. Friday, February 6, 2015, at the Holt United Methodist Church, 2321 N. Aurelius Rd., Holt, MI 48842. A second memorial service will be held later at Booneville, AR. Instead of food and flowers, please make donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Alzheimer’s Foundation. Joyce had some happy times at Forster Woods Adult Day Care Center and donations are welcome to further their ministry. Their address is 4656 N. Meridian, Williamston, MI 48895.
