John Donald Peterson, 92, of Inverness, died Saturday, October 6, 2001 at Woodlands Terrace in Hernando, FL. Born on October 30, 1908 in New Rochelle, NY to the late John and Amanda (Benson) Peterson. He came here 18 years ago from Larchmont, NY. Mr. Peterson was a retired high school teacher at the Dodge Vocational High School in Bronx, NY. He was a former sailing master at the Nantucket Yacht Club and was a sailing instructor in Bermuda. In addition to teaching and sailing, he was a prominent half-model maker of sailing ships. Included among the many models he made were for Walter Cronkite and a model for the City of New York to present to the King of Norway. Survived by wife of 63 years, Ethel (Schutt) Peterson, two sons Rod S. Peterson, West Hartford, CT, Gary L. Peterson, Breckenridge, CO, two grandchildren, Colin Peterson and Marney Kirk.
